Non-Technical Summary

Statement of Issues and Justification

An advisory committee is most commonly made up of university department heads/chairs, or other institutional managers, along with an AA and sometimes an agency representative. Advisory committees provide stakeholder linkages, technical advice and review to regional associations. These committees operate under the purview of regional associations and in the NCRA, are called NCA Committees.

The principal responsibilities of NCA committees are to advise the directors on multistate research priorities; to review ongoing multistate research and proposals for new multistate projects/committees; and to advise the directors on overall quality control for the program of multistate research. Committees are made up of department-level administrators. The duration of the committee is indefinite. The committee reports to the MRC and NCRA regarding status and recommended action to be taken on existing and proposed multistate committees.

Objectives

  1. To identify priority areas for multistate research.
  2. Perform critical evaluation of ongoing multistate research.
  3. To exchange information, coordinate, and make plans according to matters of common concern.
  4. Also, NCA committees will:
  5. Rate all ongoing projects/committees under their purview.
  6. Identify apparent duplication in the multistate research program.
  7. Characterize future multistate research needs.
  8. Review proposals for NC, NCR, and NRSP activities.
  9. Review requests for continuation of ongoing activities.
  10. Conduct critical midterm evaluations of NC projects and NCR committees following the second full year of operation.
