Accomplishments

Based on identified goals (2020-2023)

Identify and analyze secondary data sources to identify the environmental, social, and financial factors that impact (positive/negative) successful aging in place in rural communities using secondary data.

Objective met. The subset of S1082 members identified the 2011 wave of the American Housing Survey (AHS) as the best dataset to analyze for the first manuscript of the project. It was the best possible dataset to use due to the type of variables present. Impact Statements

 1. Older individuals living in rural areas face unique economic, structural, social, and cultural challenges to aging in place. Demographic and economic characteristics that may increase or decrease the propensity for older adults to make modifications to their dwelling in order to age in place should be explored.
