<p>A.&nbsp; Completed and initiated the following studies:</p><br /> <ol><br /> <li>Completed and published: Digestible P requirements of growing pigs (Coordinated by Dr. Adeola).</li><br /> <li>Initiated: Superdosing of phytase for nursery pigs (Coordinated by Dr. Shannon).</li><br /> <li>Initiated: Bakery by-product variation survey (Coordinated by Dr. Stein).</li><br /> </ol><br /> <p>B. &nbsp;Met jointly with the Southern Regional Sow Nutrition Committee (S-1061) to discuss research topics of common interest.</p><br /> <p>C.&nbsp; Obtained NIFA update from Dr. Baer and on the National Animal Nutrition Program from Drs. Cromwell and Miller.</p><br /> <p>D.&nbsp; A representative from the American Feed Industry Association (Dr. Touchette) and National Pork Board (Dr. Hostetler) provided input on research priorities in the feed industry. This led to exchange of research and funding ideas between the industry representative and the committee members.</p><br /> <p>E.&nbsp; Dr. Cromwell is preparing a manuscript on the effect of phasing of distillers dried grains with solubles on grow out performance. Dr. Adeola is preparing a manuscript of the superdosing phytase for nursery pigs experiment.</p>

<p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p><br /> <p>A.&nbsp; Collaborative studies</p><br /> <p style="padding-left: 30px;">1.&nbsp; Completed phytase super-dosing project (coordinated by Marcia Shannon); manuscript preparation progressing with draft to be completed by April 2017.</p><br /> <p style="padding-left: 30px;">2.&nbsp; Continuing work on bakery by-product variation study (coordinated by Hans Stein); sample analyses ongoing and manuscript preparations have begun.</p><br /> <p style="padding-left: 30px;">3.&nbsp; Initiated bakery meal digestibility study in growing pigs (coordinated by Hans Stein).</p><br /> <p style="padding-left: 30px;">4.&nbsp; Initiated microbiome and protein source evaluation in weanling pigs (coordinated by Phil Miller).</p><br /> <p>&nbsp;B.&nbsp; Met jointly with the Southern Regional Sow Nutrition Committee (S1061) to discuss research topics of common interest.</p><br /> <p>&nbsp;C.&nbsp; Obtained updates from NIFA (Dr. Charlotte Kirk-Baer), including information on the National Animal Nutrition Program.</p><br /> <p>&nbsp;D.&nbsp; Representatives from the American Feed Industry Association (Drs. Kevin Touchette and Henry Turlington) and National Pork Board (Dr. Chris Hostetler) provided input on research priorities in the feed industry. Additionally, Dr. Ron Nimmo discussed the newly-implemented Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) rule and what influence it will have on collective industries.</p>

<p>A.&nbsp; Collaborative studies</p><br /> <p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 1.&nbsp; Phytase super-dosing project coordinated by Marcia Shannon will be completed with the manuscript being finished by the middle of 2018.</p><br /> <p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 2.&nbsp; Swine intestinal microbiome project, initiated and coordinated by Phil Miller, will be continued with protein source evaluation in weanling pigs.</p><br /> <p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 3.&nbsp; Bakery meal project (initiated and coordinated by Hans Stein) is basically finished and manuscript preparation is almost done.</p><br /> <p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 4.&nbsp; Bakery meal digestibility study in growing pigs (coordinated by Hans Stein) was initiated and will be continued.</p><br /> <p>&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; 5.&nbsp; Ca and P project (a new project) was initiated and will be coordinated by Hans Stein.</p><br /> <p>B.&nbsp; Met jointly with the Southern Regional Sow Nutrition Committee (S-1061) to discuss research topics of common interest.</p><br /> <p>C.&nbsp; Obtained updates from NIFA (Dr. Charlotte Kirk-Baer), including information on the National Animal Nutrition Program.</p><br /> <p>D.&nbsp; Representatives from the American Feed Industry Association (Dr. Kevin Touchette), Ajinomoto Co., Inc.
